The Maleny Film
Cooperative Ltd was formed in 2009, growing out of initiatives of the Maleny Film Society including a community-
produced feature film entitled Even Emus Love to Dance, a series of short films entitled Maleny Makes
Short Movies and a Maleny Filmmakers’ Festival
(five short films by local women film-makers).
Since its inception, the Maleny Film Cooperative has
produced short films each year in themed clusters: Tree films for Treeline; Weed
films for Weedbuster Week; Food Security films for the Real Food Festival
which have been screened in many locations in the region including the Arts and
Ecology Centre, The Planting at Woodford, the RSL in Maleny, and libraries
across the region
In 2012 and 2013 the
Maleny Film Cooperative was selected as finalist in the Glossies Awards, an
initiative of Sunshine Coast Council and Moreton Bay Regional Council, in the category
‘Greening the Arts’.
The Maleny Film Coop has access to film-making equipment which was obtained by
the Maleny Film Society under a Gambling Fund grant. Members hire the equipment
at a discounted rate to fund their individual film productions.
